Since 1886, the Goldey-Beacom College tradition of excellence has been made possible by the generous support of alumni and friends. You have helped provide the resources necessary to educate each new generation. Our graduates are ready to take leadership roles in our community and begin careers in our global economy. Your gifts make the difference.
Ways to Give
2020 Goldey-Beacom College Annual Fund
Now more than ever, we need you to join us and the GBC team to help ensure academic and career success for all of our students.
Did you know:
- 100 percent of our students receive a scholarship or tuition assistance
- Most GBC applicants are first-generation college students
That is why your support is so important to the 2020 Annual Fund. Your gift, large or small, will support scholarships and financial aid for all students. Thank you for your consideration to give future alumni a chance to achieve greater.
The Annual Fund begins each August and ends the following May. Your gift will be recognized in an upcoming issue of the Goldey-Beacom College magazine (unless you request anonymity). Each donor is recognized by giving level. All gifts will be acknowledged in writing and are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law.
You can make your gift to the 2020 Annual Fund by calling Janine Sorbello, Director of External Affairs (302) 225-6261 to use your credit card; or mail your check to: Goldey-Beacom College, Development Office, 4701 Limestone Road, Wilmington, DE 19808.

Annual Fund Memorial Gifts
Memorial gifts can be given in honor of someone who is living as well as in memory of a deceased individual. Named gifts and scholarships are an option for those who wish to make larger donations, providing a lasting honor in your name, or the name of the deceased.
If you would like to remember a loved one, contact Janine Sorbello at (302) 255-6261 or email firstname.lastname@example.org to complete the process.
Endowed gifts are invested for income with the returns being used for scholarships or to further the educational mission of Goldey-Beacom College. In that way, the gift can exist in perpetuity - with the principal intact and growing over time.
Endowment Gifts include:
- Endowed scholarships
- Endowed Library Collection
- Endowed Professorship
- Faculty Development Fund
Many alumni and friends of Goldey-Beacom College have chosen to support the College through a "planned gift." This type of planning allows the donors to make substantial gifts, realize tax benefits, and yet insure a lifetime income for themselves or their loved-ones.
Bequests or gifts made through one's will, have been one of the most important sources of individual support for the College. Depending upon the size of your estate, such a bequest can help reduce, or even eliminate, estate taxes. Remember that a bequest can be included in a new will or added to an existing will through the use of a simple codicil. It is extremely important that you consult with your attorney and tax advisor when preparing or changing a will. Types of bequests:
- Specific Bequest
- Residuary Bequest
- Contingent Bequest
Life insurance can be an extremely attractive planned gift for many donors, offering a large cash value with modest small premiums. You can choose from several options:
- Donate a fully paid-up policy, naming Goldey-Beacom irrevocable owner and beneficiary. The donor is eligible for a tax deduction equivalent to the cash value of the policy.
- Take out a new policy with the College as irrevocable owner and beneficiary. Any sums then paid to Goldey-Beacom to pay the premiums are tax deductible.
- If you donate a policy with premiums still due, you are entitled to a tax deduction equal to the cash value of the policy and any additional gifts you make to fund the remaining premium payments.
Other planned giving options include:
- Retirement plan assets
- Split-interest Trusts
- Charitable Remainder Annuity Trust (CRAT)
- Pooled Income Fund or Community Foundation
- Charitable Lead Trust
- Charitable Gift Annuity
Gifts of Stock or Property
Gifts of appreciated real property (personal residence, vacation home, commercial property or land), personal property (books, art, archival material, etc.), and gifts of stock (both closely-held, non-publicly-traded and publicly-traded stock or marketable securities) are subject to various requirements. We strongly recommend seeking advice from a qualified tax advisor.
Gifts of securities can be handled one of two ways:
Marketable securities may be transferred directly through:
919 Market Street, Suite 300
Wilmington, DE 19801
Stock certificates may be endorsed directly to the College and sent by registered mail to:
4701 Limestone Road
Wilmington, DE 19808
Real Estate & Personal Property:
Items such as books, art, or archival material can be used in our educational mission. Other property, such as precious metals, real estate, or other valuables, is unrelated to our educational mission but can still be accepted as gifts. If the gift is related to our mission, you are entitled to a charitable deduction for the full fair market value of the property subject to ceiling and carryover restrictions.
